First out are all 14 påteas and later this autumn the loose teas will also follow. The background is that tea is a product where there are known risks linked to, among other things, low wages and poor working conditions. Tea from India has therefore already been identified as a priority product in Axfood’s work to promote living wages.
Fairtrade Sverige is one of the tools in this work. The certification sets requirements for wages and working conditions, among other things. Farmers and employees also receive a Fairtrade premium that can be invested in, for example, education, health and other local development efforts.
“Through our own branded products, we have the opportunity to set clear requirements and contribute to change. Fairtrade is a concrete tool for strengthening conditions for growers and workers, and certifying Garant’s entire range of tea is therefore a strategic investment in our work for living wages in the supply chain,” says Kristina Areskog Bjurling, Head of Sustainability at Dagab, Axfood’s purchasing and logistics company.
The Fairtrade-labelled påteas in different flavours are available in stores at Willys, Hemköp, City Gross and Tempo, among others.
