Axfood donates to the World Food Programme to fight hunger

By: United Nordic

Right now, extensive conflicts, crises and natural disasters are taking place in many places around the world. As a result, more and more people are finding it increasingly difficult to eat enough – and the needs are increasing rapidly. Axfood is therefore once again making a monetary contribution to the UN’s food program, the World Food Programme (WFP), for emergency operations where the needs are greatest. – Lack of food does not only have consequences for individuals. When people lack enough food, entire societies are affected because hunger leads to conflicts, ill health and insecurity. With our donation, we want to contribute to ensuring that more people in vulnerable situations have access to food and security, says Sara Kraft Westrell, Director of Communications at Axfood. Axfood’s donation goes to crises where humanitarian aid and food are most urgently needed at the moment. Through its collaboration with WFP, Axfood wants to help prevent hunger and support sustainable reconstruction for affected communities. WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organization for food assistance and is active in over 120 countries. In 2024, WFP reached 124 million people with life-saving assistance, despite major challenges. WFP works not only with emergency aid in crises, but also with long-term efforts in the form of strengthened food security, combating malnutrition, supporting reconstruction and increasing resilience to climate and conflict-related stresses. – A big thank you to Axfood for stepping forward and supporting our disaster work for the third year in a row. Your support is needed more than ever and makes it possible for us to provide people with cash and food assistance when they need it most. We are proud to have you with us in the fight against hunger, says Andreas Hansen, Director of WFP’s Nordic Office. This is the third year in a row that Axfood has made a monetary donation to the World Food Programme. In addition to the donation to WFP, and previous donations to UNHCR, Willys, Hemköp and Snabbgross are collaborating with Save the Children and SOS Children’s Villages, respectively. Donate a gift If you wish, you can also contribute yourself. By donating an amount of your choice to WFP, you support their important work to combat hunger around the world. A gift to WFP can be a meaningful way to make a difference this Christmas season, perhaps even as a thoughtful Christmas present.
