The Danes again this year have the option of a free lift across the country to get home for Christmas. It happens when the supermarket chain SPAR upholds its tradition and sends almost 1,000 Danes home for Christmas. The more than 40 Christmas-decorated buses will run on Monday, December 22.
Almost 1,000 Danes and 40 Christmas-decorated buses travel across the country on December 22. The supermarket chain SPAR, which prides itself on being Denmark’s local supermarket, is once again sending Danes home for Christmas for free this year. Since the end of October, customers and others have been able to register via SPAR’s app and choose between 40 different routes across the country. Most routes depart from Copenhagen starting at Sjælør Station, but there are also routes in the opposite direction. The longest is the route from Aalborg to Kastrup, while the shortest goes from Rønne to Hasle, and the Christmas buses bring the whole of Denmark together with stops at virtually all of the country’s 141 SPAR stores. “We are sincerely looking forward to sending many Danes home for Christmas. Now is the 9th year that we have done it, and it is always something very special to stand at Sjælør Station and see the happy guests, who are going home with suitcases, backpacks and bags of Christmas presents,” says Kristina Egerup, commercial director of SPAR. “It means something to us to be able to contribute with more than a trip. We want to spread Christmas joy to all corners of Denmark and strengthen the community we value so much,” she continues. Since the end of October, it has been possible to book a free seat on the Christmas buses, which have once again received overwhelming support. In a few days, the buses will roll out on perhaps the most hyggelig home trip of the year – and passengers can look forward to both sweets and entertainment in a Christmas-inspired goodie bag. SPAR’s Christmas buses cover most of the country, and with stops in towns with a SPAR supermarket, there is a route for the vast majority. Especially the routes from Copenhagen to Aarhus and Odense quickly filled up. Passengers can look forward to a pleasant journey in festively decorated buses – and to a goodie bag filled with goodies and entertainment.
